Thicker hair holds more texture, and layers are very desirable for such hair. Bring pictures of medium length layered hairstyles you like to your stylist, so they can give you the shape and texture you prefer. A great option in medium length layered haircuts is V cut layers. Hair is kept long in the back as the layers surrounding your face gradually draw in towards the back of the head. Medium long hair holds this style best as length is necessary to let v-cut layers shine. An easy shoulder-length long bob is a great option for women who prefer to spend less time styling their hair.

Shaggy Cut with Flipped Up Ends

The front section reaches the collarbone, and the back lays on the neck. These haircuts for women have layers at the back that could be stacked. These layers will give extra volume if your hair is fine or will take the weight off if your hair is thick. An edgy lob with bangs is a classy hairstyle that only requires low upkeep.

#35: Low-Maintenance Medium-Length Hairstyle

Try the octopus cut if you’re looking for a good medium-length cut with lots of movement. The octopus cut is similar to the shag cut, which makes it perfect for the modern woman to enjoy. While the cut has a lot of layers and movement, it would be best for women with very dense hair.

Consider adding crown layers and volume to fine hair if you aim for depth and fullness in thin, mid-length hair. Request layers around the crown to create lift and movement for an airy look. These layers can make volumizing haircuts for thin, medium hair, adding texture without affecting length. To achieve this style, start with damp hair and apply a lightweight volumizing mousse from roots to ends.

#33: Shoulder-Length Haircut for Women Over 30

Not everyone can handle fringy layers, but multi-dimensional color comes to life with them. In the early 2000’s this cut would be known as “the rachel” haircut after Jennifer Aniston. This haircut’s main components consist of the main layers falling right at and below the cheekbones.

Perfectly Feathered Medium Haircut

The tiered sections add flattering texture without distracting from the ease of the style. With all of that in mind, eschew extremes in favor of a chic middle ground. Here, 30 low-maintenance medium-length haircuts to inspire your next salon visit. Hairstyles with longer layers and bangs are great for anyone looking for a cut with little upkeep.

Medium Length Layered Hair with Bangs

To create it, you’ll need a curler, Fresh Start Dry Shampoo, and All-Around Working Spray. We’re going to treat the hair with the curler and then weavе a braid, which should be narrow at the end. After just a couple of minutes, you can enjoy your chic and multi-purpose hairdo. You should consider this style if you’d like to add some shine to your thin hair. You’ll need a flat iron, a comb, and, of course, a reliable clip to fix the strands.

#66: Face-Framing Layers

The soft fringe is versatile and can be worn full, to the side, parted in the middle, or pinned back. Style the lob smooth with a bit of an inward flick while adding a few drops of Olaplex’s bonding oil n7 for some extra shine. If you can’t get movement in your dull style, a mid-length razor shag is not only on trend but great for modern women. I suggest this to my clients with straight to wavy hair, and it works great for fine to thick density. Depending on your routine, some textures can get away with air drying with this product. Others may find the need for hot tools to get a polished result.

Straight hair can come with no highlights, still radiating vibrancy through masterfully done layering that doesn’t look tousled or chunky. This sun-kissed hair looks brilliant thanks to the bouncy feel acquired by heavy layering at the bottom. The back view also showcases cool haphazard styling with flipped out ends.

If you’re blessed with symmetrical features and want to channel some Old Hollywood glamour, elegant waves will be your best friend. Using styling clips to hold your style in place as it cools will create incredible hold. To open up your features, keep a section tucked behind the ear with a bobby pin.

To take the hairdo up a notch, implement scattered streaks of a shade a few levels lighter than your base color. Jennifer Aniston’s medium face-framing cut for straight hair exudes elegance. This cut is achievable with a little help from leave-in conditioners. It ensures more durability for styling while shielding your hair from unwanted hair damage.

It can be worn with natural curls/waves, styled straight, or curled with an iron. And this length will still go up for women who sometimes need their hair out of their faces. Soft beach waves and light bangs can be your next makeover haircut. Your strands will feel refreshed in a medium-length shape with a cute fringe. If you don’t have a natural wave, create some quick texture with an iron, leaving the ends out for a beachy finish. If you are bored with your color, consider a brunette hairstyle, and enjoy a richer shade that reflects the light for maximum shine.

Razor cutting is a technique that stylists employ to refine sections and thin ends out. This lob is a perfect fluent look yet with depth originating from the cut and coloring. A two-tiered mid length layered hair is an unorthodox approach to layering. This cut with shoulder length layers is an ideal choice for those who want some dimension without a fully sectioned look.

39 Low-Maintenance Medium-Length Haircuts for Busy Women

A mid-clipped style looks good on any length, but we love it on Keke Palmer's shoulder-sweeping curls. On a fresh roller set or blowout, section out a small middle section at the top of your head and secure it with a decorative hair clip. Want to play with color but don't want to commit to the maintenance of a full dye job? Copy Charli D'Amelio's fun and playful look by contrasting your natural shade with a few hidden peeps of color. The angled bob is a timeless style that’s given a contemporary update with these bangs.

Long Bob with Flipped Layered Ends

Medium haircuts for thin hair must be light and airy — never weighed down. This style hits the mark perfectly with its gravity-defying waves and loose curls. Flipping the bottom layers out (instead of in) also serves to bring a lot of life and vibrancy to your casual hairstyle. If your straight mid-length hair looks thin and dry, cut off the damaged ends and go for a shorter, razored bob cut. The streaks of blonde look fantastic over the darker base color, and the feathered bangs and tousled top add volume and roundness to the overall silhouette. Wearing your hair in a no-frills style makes highlights look very natural and effortless.

Cute Side-Parted Ash Brown Bob

Face-framing highlights are youthful and imitate the natural bleaching from the sun during summertime. Match this with a tousled style to achieve an effortless-looking ready-to-wear hairdo. Layers don’t have to go all over your head to add the desired dimension. A beautiful mid-length style with side layers can frame your face in a complimenting way, especially if your neck is long or your face shape is oval. Fun and Flattering Medium Hairstyles for Women

Even tight curls will fall into place just perfectly and all naturally after they are layered with a master touch. Let us all bow down to Union's perfectly perfect curls, which are amped up by a slicked-back topknot and waved edges. Try a natural style like twist-outs, braid-outs, or bantu knots.

The angled cut is sleek and draws attention to the cheekbones, making it a strong match for an oval or long face. It’s a versatile look that can swing from professional to edgy with just a little styling wax. The shoulder-length bob with straight bangs is a match made in heaven for those with a diamond face shape, as it accentuates cheekbones and balances proportions. A round brush and a good blowout are essential to keep this sleek look in tip-top shape.

The hairstyle barely touches the shoulders and can be parted to the side or in the middle. Try a voluminous layered cut with heavy side bangs if you have thick hair. The bangs are a great way to add a chic clean look to your haircut. For some, this look is best styled with a lot of feathered layers, creating a beautiful rounded look.

Sleek and Straight

This style reminds me of an old-school 60s bubble flip, with less backcombing and hairspray. The ash tones on this gray are created by glazing natural grey hair with violet or purple-based grey/silver toner. Go for a bold look with copper red on a disconnected wolf cut. Short layers at the crown will give the right amount of volume and body for a fuller-looking appearance. A wolf cut is the perfect on-trend cut that will give your hair texture and the edgy look you have been looking for.

#8: Mid-Length Razor Shag

This article highlights the key points when making a decision that will ultimately be more flattering for your style. Ask your stylist what cut will enhance your features best and if the cut will suit your lifestyle when it comes down to having to do your hair from home. This is a simple yet elegant and cute hairstyle for medium hair.

We suggest tapping the iron in an "S" shape over small chunks of hair. For a medium cut that plays up your curl pattern, opt for a predominantly blunt style, rounded to allow your natural texture to achieve its final form. Invest in products that enhance your curls—and if you ever wear your hair straight, give your stylist a heads up so they can take both options into account. A tomboy shag is a great option if you are trying to grow your hair out from short to medium. The wispy and uneven razored layers keep the cut edgy and modern.

Silver is no longer a shade solely for the mature, as a whole new generation has embraced the cool tone. When it comes to hip hairstyles for thick hair that will turn heads, this is a front runner. It can go casual and messy or work-ready with just a slight styling change. Soft wavy curls as shown here will add sophistication to your shaggy do.

Straight hair plays so nicely with an A-line cut, especially when the layering is smooth and subtle. Plump up your boring and flat shoulder-length hair with a vivacious, inverted bob that has lots of chunky waves and textured, shaggy pieces. The bright blonde color has been muted with some honey undertones, and the side part allows for long, face-framing bangs to dip down toward the clavicles.

You can style it in many different ways, depending on the result you want to achieve. If you need to add volume to your mane, curl your strands a bit to repeat this gorgeous wavy hairstyle or step it up with stunning ash blonde balayage. The asymmetrical look of the A-line bob is youthful, flirty, and flattering, and most of the work happens in the stylist’s chair. This cut looks best on women with slightly wavy hair, but big rollers and curling irons can transform stick-straight locks.

Do this for about 30 minutes to ensure the longevity of your blowout. Consisting of pink and rose hues, this look is perfect for a fashionista who doesn’t mind some hair color maintenance to reach her greatest hair potential. So, your stylist should guide you on how to care for chemically treated hair using masks and treatments. Below, you will find a score of trendy layered haircuts for medium hair to get inspired, whether you like experimenting or not. Feathered styling brings an entirely different feel, making your hair look airy and dynamic.

A sleek lob is a great medium-length hairstyle for women with thin hair. Use a heat protectant on your hair before flat ironing and some serum to tame flyaways and increase shine. A one-length blunt cut like this is a great option when finding cute shoulder-length hairstyles and cuts for fine hair. It helps frame your face and accentuates your bone structure. Style with waves plus contrasting highlights, and you’ll get lots of movement.

cut haircuts for medium length hair

It’s a versatile choice, allowing the bangs to be styled for fullness or a curtain-like parting. The layers add dimension to the hair, which is great for someone with medium-density hair seeking movement. One thing to note is that layers around the face can require a bit of extra styling time to achieve that perfect fall. This layered cut, with its side-swept bangs, is a boon for fine hair, giving an illusion of volume and movement.

Home Architecture & Urban Design: Los Angeles and Southern California Research Guides at UCLA Library

design library

Goodhue was widely known in California for his influential master plan and building designs for the Panama California Exposition held in San Diego’s Balboa Park in 1915. For the Exposition Goodhue developed an ornate version of the Spanish Colonial Revival style, and the Library Board hired him in hopes he would design something in that idiom. His two final projects, the Nebraska State Capitol and our Los Angeles Central Library are regarded by architectural historians as the most innovative work of his career. The Richard J. Riordan Central Library in downtown Los Angeles is both a leading public research library and a major architectural landmark. Comprised of the original 1926 library now called the Goodhue Building and a 1993 addition named for former mayor Tom Bradley, it ranks with the Bradbury Building and Union Station as a treasure of the city’s historic downtown. The library has been designated a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument (#46) and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Researching UCLA Campus Buildings

The sculptor was Lee Lawrie who had collaborated with Goodhue on a number of major commissions. Lawrie’s sculptures for the library revolve around a theme, Light of Learning, devised by University of Nebraska philosophy professor Hartley Burr Alexander. Goodhue and Lawrie first worked with Alexander on the Nebraska state capitol, and for both buildings, Alexander developed subject matter for the sculpture and chose or authored the inscriptions used on both exterior and interior. The result is a distinctive combination of a building strikingly modern in style, yet traditional in the way it uses art to symbolize and celebrate its cultural function.

Established in 1852, the Boston Public Library is home to a Charles Follen McKim-designed building, just like the aforementioned Morgan Library & Museum. The research collection of the Boston Public Library boasts more than 1.7 million rare books and manuscripts, including Shakespeare’s First Folio and various quartos of his writing. The Austrian National Library is extravagant, and understandably so—various emperors (and even an archduke) played a role in the origins of this remarkable building. In this bedroom designed by Tamsin Johnson, the elaborate, moody bookshelf contrasts with the modern bedskirt and pale blush pink and white color scheme.

The rest of Lawrie’s sculptures preserved from the East Wing have been mounted in the Taper Auditorium lobby. The Tom Bradley Wing contains a number of art projects commissioned as part of the city’s percent for art program administered by the Department of Cultural Affairs. Through Debris, designers Shoma Furui and Kem Kobayashi aim to communicate the issue of environmental disruption subtly, using party accessories made from marine plastic collected from Makuhari Beach as material. The visually striking appearance resembles a cross-section of buried plastic waste, featuring pop patterns and textures created by the resin.

Not sure if those still exist, but I’m fairly sure that the dramatic reference desk in the lower row is still around. Julius Shulman (1910–2009) was a renowned architectural photographer who popularized mid-century modern architecture with his elegant photographs. Some of his prodigious output is accessible online through the Getty Research Institute, where I found these photos of the Asuza Public Library (and the one that follows). When I see a building, piece of furniture, type, or graphic design that is spare and functional, full of long lines and quadrilaterals, made of simple materials, and connected to its environment, it gives me a distinctly calm feeling. When I see a mid-century modern building, the world slows down, it makes sense. "Nothing transports like a deep red room," says designer Mary McDonald of the sumptuous library in a Beverly Hills home.

The other project, entitled Illuminations by Ann Preston, consists of four columnar light fixtures installed on the escalator landings at each level along the atrium’s inner wall. The structure stands today defiant to the cold glass edges of the neighboring cityscape. Designed to contrast, the library is artistically beautiful on the outside as it is colorful and kaleidoscopic inside. From the street, the structure resembles a capital building with it's massive rotunda and central dome feature. The Los Angeles library association itself has a hard time classifying the overall design, describing it as, and just try to imagine this, an Egyptian flavored version of Art Deco.

The new library will house meeting spaces, office space for library personnel, and feature more modern technology. Other ideas under consideration include a drive-up window, auditorium/performance space, expanded children’s area, study rooms, additional community meeting spaces and an art gallery. The main building of this college library, known as the Old Library, was designed by Irish architect Thomas Burgh in 1712 and includes the Long Room, pictured, a breathtaking expanse of arched bookshelves beneath a vaulted ceiling. The acquisition and classification of unique design collections from all over the world is ongoing and the archive continues to expand. In the process, historic preservation became a national issue and organizations like the Los Angeles Conservancy were born. Finally the conflict was resolved in 1983 with a plan to preserve the original building and create an addition, the whole to be largely financed by a transfer of air rights to neighboring high rise development. The Design Library’s business is the sale and licensing of antique, vintage, modern and contemporary textile designs for inspiration to the fashion, home furnishings, textile, wall covering, graphic arts, and paper product industries. The staff I have met across different areas of the various campuses have all been extremely welcoming and have helped me start to find my place in the Jefferson community. All of the reading rooms on the main level together with the north staircase also have ceilings executed by Garnsey and his assistants. Procreate is the perfect starting point for users that want to try their hand at animation. Designers used to only have a few choices for professional graphic design tools. Now, they can choose from a wide range of graphic design software options and tools — no matter what their graphic design needs are. GIMP is a well-known program in the world of free graphic design software.

The intuitive interface and its drag and drop editor and wide selection of customizable templates make creating and editing software a walk in the park. Similarly, you can seamlessly create logos, flyers, brochures, posters, and presentations to promote your brand with online graphic design tools. Unfortunately, only 1k free templates and 100 text frames are available under the free plan; you must switch to the pro model to access premium features. The products mentioned in this article are either creative suites with graphic design functionality or stand-alone graphic design software. All products offer core graphic design software features, such as design templates and image editing.

Despite coming a little later to the field, though, XD offers great responsive-design tools, strong team features, and the familiarity of Adobe tools. I like to call it the free version of the Adobe Creative Cloud, which contains some of the best software for graphic designers (but for a price!). It’s one of the best graphic design programs for Mac, and even if you don’t think you’ll use it often, it’s good to have a subscription for it at least.

Also, once you get used to it you’ll find that Illustrator has a very user-friendly and intuitive user interface with plenty of hotkeys, shortcuts, and customizability. When comparing GIMP vs Photoshop, the interface of these free graphics software solutions is similar. A few tool icons are the same and the layer setup is not worse than in Photoshop.

Autodesk Maya is the best graphic design software for 3D work, and is commonly used across the industry, right up to top studios like Pixar or Framestore. It contains huge range of tools and features covering pretty much the entire 3D workflow, from modelling through to rendering and animation. Be warned, though, the price and the time it'll take you to learn will be off-putting to anyone who's not well-versed in 3D.

Create 3D models with stickers, textures, and shapes, then debut them on Remix3D through the app. Genially is appropriate for pro designers and beginners alike and covers a wide range of design needs. The free design software has no limit on the number of projects you can create, however, you can’t export anything without a subscription.

It has been responsible for changing laws, changing how we think, for educating hospitals, police departments, college presidents, school principals and athletic coaches about rape and rape prevention. When Abarbanel needed to raise money to get the Rape Treatment Center going, women who worked for Lear — many of whom had their own experience with rape — put her in touch with the prolific fundraiser Sandra Moss, who was married to A&M Records co-founder Jerry Moss. First and foremost, she told him, she wanted people to stop blaming victims. In 1986, Abarbanel and attorney Aileen Adams, the first counsel for the Rape Treatment Center, created Stuart House. Before that, the treatment of child victims, even more so than adults, was egregious.

He had relocated to Northern California with his family and worked in the tech industry, returning to music only occasionally and releasing a second solo album in 1994. He appeared with the group when it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but did not speak. Some fans perceived this as disapproval of the Hall, but he later said it was because the ceremony already had gone on for too long.

Pinder was an early proponent of the Mellotron, a keyboard that was essentially an early sampler that created a distinctive orchestral sound that marked many songs by the Moody Blues and other groups of the progressive-rock era. The group rocketed to stardom in 1965 with their cover of Bessie Bank’s soulful ballad “Go Now” and Pinder wrote many of the group’s early originals with Laine, but he departed the group in 1966 (ultimately joining Paul McCartney’s Wings several years later). It’s impossible in this space to list all the Rape Treatment Center’s firsts.

Former Location –Part of the chain that includes locations in New Orleans and Cambridge, MA, this newer club quickly became “the place” for big names to play in an intimate setting. There’s nothing like joyous gospel music to feed your soul and comfort food to feed your hunger.

In 1994, the young woman who told her terrible story was the 24-year-old granddaughter of an entertainment executive. She grew up in Beverly Hills, not far from Greenacres. When she was 12, her father fired the family nanny and began raping her at night. By the end of high school, after she had gathered the courage to leave home and reveal the abuse, she found solace at Stuart House, the Rape Treatment Center’s extraordinary refuge for children who have been sexually abused.

Kids who disclosed abuse were ferried around to five or six different agencies, interviewed and re-interviewed by a succession of adult strangers. There was a lack of specialized forensic care, and very little specialized therapy. At Stuart House, children receive specialized pediatric forensic exams and extensive medical and therapeutic support. An alleged rapist would be charged only if a victim had demonstrated physical resistance “to the utmost,” as the law puts it. If a victim hadn’t fought back and gotten injured, she couldn’t credibly claim she was raped. “There is nothing more powerful than hearing the victim tell their experience,” Abarbanel told me.

Indulge in decadent dining, inspired mixology, live entertainment, house DJs and over-the-top service inside Foundation Room. In 1967, the group recorded what is considered by many to be the first progressive rock album, “Days of Future Passed,” working with an orchestra whose sound Pinder would reproduce on the Mellotron in a live setting. The album included the orch-rock classic “Nights in White Satin,” which became an unlikely hit single in the U.S. some five years later. Yet the Moody Blues were a popular act in the U.S. and the U.K. During this period, with all six of the albums released between 1967 and 1972 going being certified gold or platinum.

A Los Angeles native, Abarbanel began her career as a social worker in Santa Monica. She had no particular interest in rape victims, but in the early 1970s, she was asked to see a young woman who had been hospitalized after a suicide attempt. Less than a week earlier, it turned out, the young woman had been raped by a stranger on the beach.
